Scope and Contents

The collection is arranged into two series, the Dean records and Syllabi. The collection contains administrative correspondence relating to undergraduate accreditation, the Bartley Award for Distinguished Achievement committee, the Board of Visitors, and the Ad Hoc Committee on Athletics; minutes from chairmen’s meetings, meetings of the dean’s council, and other meetings; various reports on the several departments in the School of Business; and syllabi from undergraduate, and graduate courses.

Biographical / Historical

The Villanova School of Business was founded in 1922 as the College of Commerce and Finance. It was originally housed in the Commerce and Finance Building, later renamed Vasey Hall. The College’s first dean was Joseph C. Bartley, who served in the role until 1926. Since then, the following Deans have served in the position: Rev. Philip F. Barrett (1962-1976), Alvin A. Clay (1977-1995), John A. Pearce II (1995-1996), Tim Monahan (1996 to 2003), James M. Danko(2005 to 2011), Patrick G. Maggitti (2012 to 2015), and Joyce E. A. Russell (since 2016). The College of reorganized in 1964 and, in 2006, it was renamed the Villanova School of Business under the leadership of James M. Danko. The School of Business is currently housed in Bartley Hall, which was named after Dean Bartley and houses the School's faculty and administrative offices, as well as classrooms, lecture halls, and a large auditorium. The School of Business offers undergraduate and graduate programs in economics, finance, management, marketing, business administration, and other area; the graduate program was established in 1983. It also houses the Center for Marketing and Public Policy Research, the Center for Global Leadership, the Daniel M. DiLella Center for Real Estate, the Center for the Study of Church Management, the Center for Innovation, Creativity, and Entrepreneurship, and the Center for Business Analytics.

Abstract

This collection of records pertains to the history, pedagogy, and administrative processes of the Villanova School of Business, formerly known as the College of Commerce and Finance. The collection is comprised of fourteen boxes of textual materials, including administrative correspondence, meeting minutes, reports, and syllabi from 1962-2007.

Arrangement

The collection is divided into two series, the Dean records and Syllabi. The Dean records series is divided into three subseries, Correspondence, Minutes, and Reports. The Syllabi series is divided into two subseries, Undergraduate Syllabi and Graduate Syllabi.
